Yoder Roots Baking began in the summer of 2017 as a Cottage Foods business out of a desire to share the desserts and treats of my childhood with the people of northern Colorado. My (Amy) maiden name is Yoder, and is a name that is often synonymous with all things Amish. Growing up, I didn't know a lot about what it meant to have Yoder roots, I just knew that my favorite thing about having any ties to the Amish community was that they made some of the best food...particulary dessert! I have always had quite the sweet tooth and I absolutely loved it when my mom or my grandma would make whoopie pies. It was almost a guarantee that any time that we visited my grandma's house she would have a few tucked away in her freezer, and you had better believe that she wouldn't hesitate to dig them out for her grandkids. And on the occasion that we had them in my family's home, you'd better grab one fast because they weren't going to be around for long!
The recipe for whoopie pies that both my mom and grandma used was from the recipe box of my great-grandmother, Lomie Yoder. Grandma Yoder was born and raised in Belleville, PA and grew up in the Amish community there. Many of her recipes have been passed down through the generations and are now enjoyed by my own family and are at the heart of Yoder Roots Baking. I am so excited to share these recipes with you and hope that you will love them as much as I do!
